The Sensium story

Twenty years building telematics for fleets in Australia and New Zealand.

Origin

Founded in New Zealand, headquartered in Brisbane.

Sensium was founded in New Zealand in 2005, at a time when fleet telematics was largely a tracking-and-mapping product and the data sovereignty conversation hadn't started. Australian operations were established in 2011 and Brisbane became the headquarters as the customer base expanded across both countries. The company remains Australian-owned - notably as the rest of the market consolidated under foreign ownership.

Origin + structure

  • 2005 founded in New Zealand
  • 2011 HQ established in Brisbane
  • Australian-owned today
  • Offices in both countries
  • Australian-Made certified
  • LGP panel listed

Convictions

  • Telematics is becoming infrastructure
  • Sovereign data matters operationally, not just symbolically
  • Hardware longevity is a buyer's interest, not a vendor's
  • Cross-department vehicle sharing is possible now
  • End-to-end ownership produces better products

What we believe

Telematics is becoming infrastructure.

The category started as a tracking-and-mapping product. It is becoming an operational infrastructure layer - fleet data informing council finance, government compliance, utility crew safety, mining productivity, agricultural seasonality, distribution accuracy. Sensium has built the platform on the conviction that telematics deserves to be treated as infrastructure: long-lived hardware, sovereign data, single-vendor accountability.

What we make

Hardware, software, telemetry. All three. In-house.

Sensium designs and manufactures TRACKbox GPS hardware in Australia, writes Sensium Connect+ fleet management software in-house, and runs True Path one-second telemetry firmware. Three layers, one team, one accountability. This is the structural difference that lets us handle custom feature requests in-house, at our own cadence, and the reason fleet data stays in-region end-to-end.

Product layers

  • Hardware · TRACKbox 4

Designed and manufactured in Australia. Cellular + Direct-to-Cell satellite ready. 10+ year deployment.

  • Software · Sensium Connect+

Cloud fleet management. Cost centres, pool booking, EV + ICE, core modules included.

  • Telemetry · True Path

1-second telemetry. 120x more granular than standard 2-minute polling.

2024-2025 highlights

Three recent appointments that change the procurement picture.

Each followed a competitive evaluation of platform security, data integrity, scalability, and long-term support — independently verified rather than self-reported.

Government · NZ

NZ All-of-Government Telematics Panel

Sensium has been appointed to the New Zealand All-of-Government Telematics Panel. NZ government agencies can procure Sensium through a pre-approved framework. The appointment reflects Sensium's credentials in security, compliance, reliability, and long-term platform support.

Government · QLD

QFleet Telematics Panel

Sensium is an approved provider on the Queensland Government QFleet Telematics Panel. Queensland government agencies and departments can procure through an established procurement framework without running a fresh tender each time.

Enterprise · ORIX NZ

Preferred Telematics Partner

Selected by ORIX New Zealand as preferred telematics partner following a comprehensive platform evaluation. Sensium supports ORIX's enterprise and government fleet customers across diverse vehicle types and operating environments.

The picture today

Thousands of vehicles. One platform. Across Australasia.

Thousands

The same platform runs council, government, utility, mining, agricultural, and logistics fleets. Thousands of vehicles across Australia and New Zealand. Built locally. Data kept in-region. Hardware that lasts the life of the vehicle.

Australian-made. Firmware-owned. Data kept in-region.

Pool & shared vehicles

Cross-department vehicle sharing, done properly.

Government and council fleets sit idle for predictable stretches of the week while other teams buy more vehicles. Sensium Connect+ brings multi-tenancy, cost-centre-aware pool booking, and RFID handover together, so a vehicle used by Parks on Monday and Planning on Tuesday is booked, tracked, and billed back to the right team automatically.

Corporate sponsor: eWaste Connection.

Sensium is a proud corporate sponsor of eWaste Connection — a Brisbane-based electronics recycler. eWaste Connection is on a mission Sensium believes in: diverting electronic waste from landfill while giving people of all abilities a chance to pitch in and contribute meaningful work.

The fit is structural rather than cosmetic. Sensium designs hardware built to outlast the typical vehicle lifecycle — the opposite of the three-year telematics churn cycle the rest of the industry runs. The same conviction that drives ten-plus year deployments drives the sponsorship of the team keeping electronics out of landfill at end-of-life.

eWaste Connection builds purpose, helps the environment, and creates friendships in Brisbane. We are pleased to support the work.
