Installed once. Forgotten.

TB2 is wired directly into the vehicle's electrical system on a pre-assembled installation loom Sensium supplies with the hardware. No batteries to swap, no SIM trays to access, no driver action required. The unit sits behind the trim and runs for the deployment lifetime of the vehicle. You interact with the dashboard; your drivers interact with nothing.

Always-on, encrypted, two-way

Not a poll. A persistent connection.

TB2 holds a persistent encrypted connection to the Sensium Connect cloud - commands can be sent down to the device, not just data pulled up from it. This is the architectural difference behind remote lock/unlock, engine disable, RFID handover, and any future command-class feature. Poll-based competitor devices physically can't do this - they wait for the next scheduled call-home.

True Path telemetry

1-second polling. Not every 2 minutes.

TB2 records vehicle position every second via True Path - the proprietary Sensium telemetry system. The difference shows up in route replay accuracy, geofence event timing, arrival/departure precision, and the resolution of your cost-centre utilisation reports. The hardware does the capture; the software does the rendering.

Most fleet GPS hardware is designed on a 3-year replacement cycle - vendors prefer the recurring hardware revenue. TB2 is built for 10+ year deployment. Some original Sensium units are still in service after seventeen years. This is a deliberate engineering choice: the hardware longevity is the single biggest input into council and government total cost of ownership.

What is TRACKbox TB2?

TRACKbox TB2 is Sensium's primary hard-wired in-vehicle telematics device. It's installed once into the vehicle's electrical system and runs for the full deployment lifetime of the vehicle. Designed and manufactured in Australia. The unit underneath 90%+ of currently-deployed Sensium fleets.

How does TB2 differ from TB4?

TB2 is the hard-wired cellular workhorse — the right choice for the bulk of a vehicle fleet operating within the cellular grid. TB4 is the next-generation unit with cellular + Direct-to-Cell satellite + LoRa in a single device, for fleets that operate past cellular coverage (utility crews, mining, agriculture, rural government). Both run the same firmware and report into the same Sensium Connect+ dashboard, so a mixed-TB2/TB4 fleet operates as one fleet.

Can TB2 be added to existing telematics installs?

Yes. TB2 is designed to be installed alongside any existing telematics or two-way radio infrastructure. Sensium can supply pre-assembled installation looms with the hardware where appropriate, which helps keep install quality consistent across customer deployments.

Designed for 10+ year deployment. Some original Sensium units are still reporting in after seventeen years in the field. The TB2 hardware lifecycle is designed to outlast the vehicle, which is the single biggest input into total cost of ownership for council and government fleets.

What add-ons does TB2 support?

TB2 has Plug & Play support for Driver ID modules (so you know who is driving, not just which vehicle moved), in-vehicle panic buttons (with standard or latched activation modes), and LoRa remote duress pendants (so lone-worker safety is covered even off-vehicle). What network and SIM does TB2 use?

TB2 connects over 4G LTE using enterprise-grade M2M connectivity on the Telstra network, with a physical M2M SIM. It uses a store-and-forward design, so if connectivity drops the device records data locally and uploads the backlog once it reconnects. Sensium bundles the connectivity, so it is not a separate line item customers manage.

What happens to TB2 when the vehicle loses power?

TB2 carries an internal backup battery that keeps the unit reporting for roughly 10 hours after a loss of vehicle power. A disconnected battery, an attempted theft, or a vehicle left switched off still reports position and status rather than going dark - useful for both asset security and incident reconstruction.

What warranty comes with TB2?

TB2 carries a 3-year manufacturer's warranty and is designed for 10+ year deployment. Because Sensium designs and manufactures the hardware in Australia and writes the firmware in-house, warranty and field support are handled directly rather than routed through an offshore OEM.

Question 09

Can TB2 firmware be updated after it is installed?

Yes. Firmware updates are pushed remotely over the cellular connection, so there is no need to retrieve or re-visit each vehicle. This is what lets a custom feature - such as the 115 km/h speed buzzer one council requested, shipped in four days - reach in-field TB2 units quickly. Sensium owning the firmware end-to-end is what makes this possible.

How accurate is TB2 location tracking?

TB2 uses multi-constellation GNSS, typically delivering GPS accuracy within around 10 metres. Paired with True Path one-second telemetry, route replay, geofence entry and exit timing, and arrival and departure events reflect what the vehicle actually did rather than a two-minute sampled approximation.
